What is Shiatsu? What is Asian Bodywork Therapy?

"Shiatsu is exquisite, finely detailed connective tissue therapy." -- Michael DeAgro, AOBTA®-CI

Shiatsu is a form of Asian Bodywork Therapy, rooted in the same system of medicine from which acupuncture arises. Shiatsu can:

  • Alleviate chronic pain  (including low back painneck and shoulder pain, wrist, hand, and forearm discomfort)
  • Increase joint flexibility
  • Help to balance and improve the digestion, reduce spasms and cramping
  • Relieve migraine pain
  • Enhance immunity, balance autoimmunity
  • Lessen depression and anxiety, post-traumatic stress, phobias, panic attacks, unresolved grief

General Benefits Include:

  • Increased calm
  • Reduced fatigue
  • Better sleep
  • Greater energy
  • Better focus

Shiatsu uses stretching, rocking, finger and hand contact, as well as other techniques that do not break the skin. Points and the channels along which the points lie are balanced using rhythm and movement. Clients report feeling energized and relaxed after a session.
